Hi, how much are the 27mm 29er recon rims in flyweight version? I need a pair with 32h drilling for gravel/CX/fat road tyres. Highest psi I run is around 55psi. How much for 2 rims posted to the UK? What spoke tensions are recommended for these flyweight rims? Thanks, Tom.

LightBicycle 2019/06/27

Hi Tom, The flyweight version of 29er XC rim RM29C06 (27mm wide) is USD158 (UD, matte, 32H) each. For the flyweight version, our recommendation usage would be for the front wheel of a CX bike (or gravel bike). I would also have to point out that the rider weight limit of this particular rim is 90kg. If you are heavier than 90kg or riding a bit aggressive, the rim won't be a good choice. Normally, we recommend using the flyweight version for the front wheel and the standard version for the rear wheel. Riding with 55psi is totally ok for rim RM29C06 as our recommendation tire pressure is under 60psi. Max spoke tension is 135KGF. Please do not exceed 135kgf while wheel building. We also email you the spoke tension chat we normal use for your reference. Thanks, Lightbicycle

I am looking at the flyweight version of the RM29C06. I am 81Kg (180 lbs). I am a 60yo I ride mostly single track mountain trails in Utah. I am a strong rider on smooth single track. I do not do any rough rocky terrain , no drops, air etc. Could I go with the flyweight or standard?

LightBicycle 2019/04/16

Hi Tchell, Since you are not doing aggressive riding and not a heavy rider yourself, we recommend using the flyweight version on the front and the standard version on the back. Are you looking for building a complete 29er XC wheelset from us? or carbon fiber bike rims only? Thanks, Lightbicycle

Ciao, I recently crashed my CZero carbon rims on my Scalpel Carbon. I'm considering to buy a pair of 29C06 Flyweight rims (to be re-build on existing hubs) . My weight approx 76-78 kg. Level of riding: XCO training/racing in all type of conditions. Does the 29C06 meet the requirements?

LightBicycle 2018/07/05

Hi Chris, Few questions for you before you place the order. Let me learn more about your riding condition to make the proper recommendation. 1. What is the tire width you use? The recommended tire width for RM29C06 is 2.0~2.2". 2. Are you an aggressive rider? You are not a big guy, so as long as you don't ride aggressively, The flyweight is ok. 3. Do you ride rocky terrain often? Then we can check whether flyweight version 29er mtb bike rim is strong enough for you. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Hello What are the spoke tensions for the 29C06 flyweight rims with dt swiss 240s straightpull hubs and with the dt swiss competion race spokes. Thanks

LightBicycle 2018/07/04

Hi Aaron, We use the following spoke tension range while building symmetrical MTB wheels, pls take it as reference Front hub: non-drive side 115~125kgf, Drive side 85~95kgf Rear hub: non-drive side 85~95kgf, Drive side 115~125kgf It’s better to make sure that the max spoke tension under 135kgf. Why is the RM2906 only rated at 40PSI? The hookless rims from several other manufacturers can run higher pressure and theirs is hookless. I only need 10more PSI. I would like to run these at 50 PSI with a 28mm tire for both some gravel roads and some tarmac. I only weigh 72.5kg. I would love to use your RM2906 because it is so light but the PSI is making me think about it. I see your gravel rim but would rather use this rim if I can.

LightBicycle 2018/02/13

Hi Roger, 40psi is the tire pressure we recommend to you that keep tire safely on the rim and make sure your rims at their best performance during riding. Normally, nobody would ride over 40psi during riding. 70psi is the tire pressure we used on lab when testing the rim mounted with an inflated tire. 70psi is the max tire pressure. We highly NOT recommend run with high pressure. Thanks, Lightbicycle

I am right on the edge of the weight limit for the flyweight. I know the tires are rated for "XC", but what testing methods are being used to determine weight limit. Would the flyweights hold up to "trail" riding at their max rated capacity?

LightBicycle 2018/02/07

Hi sir, What kind of riding style will you ride on RM29C06 rims? Do you ride aggressively? Normally, RM29C06 flyweight is for racing only. While normal training, it is better to use standard version for daily training. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Can you make a hooked version of the RM29C06 Flyweight capable of higher psi? Would make an excellent light rim for fatter road tires.

LightBicycle 2017/10/14

Hi Kevin, Thanks for you inquiry! Currently, we do not have this rim in hook version. Do you ride road or road disc? May I know your tire width and your weight please? What about your usually tire pressure? Then we can check which is the suitable and lightest rim for you. We have RG922 hook(29mm outer/22mm inner). It should be okay for you. Thanks, Lightbicycle

What is the recommended smallest tyre to use on these rims? Would they be suitable for cyclocross? I am also interested in the new gravel rims (RG922), are they available yet? Thanks.

LightBicycle 2017/10/08

Hi Rob, Sorry for the late reply. We were on National Day vacation from October 1st to 7th. We are just back to work today. How much tire pressure will you use? Then we can check whether RM29C06 rim is okay or not for your cyclocross riding. It is hookless design, it is better to make sure the tire pressure is less than 40 psi while riding, to preventing from tire blowing out while riding. Please check our RG922 gravel rim profile as attached. It is 29mm wide and 28mm deep, with hook design. It can hold tire pressure that is higher than 100psi. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Hi Scott, Thanks for your inquiry! The max weight limit for flyweight version is also 100kg, so it’s strong enough for you. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Hi, I'm checking in on the gravel rims you mentioned above. Will there be details released soon? The RM29C06 are nearly perfect for what I'm looking for but the possibility of your new gravel rims being able to run slightly higher PSI (50-60) sounds like it would hit the sweet spot providing they don't have massive weight gains. Thanks!

LightBicycle 2017/09/19

Dear John, Thank you for your inquiry! We recommend to use less than 40psi on RM29C06 rims. There will be a risk to have tire blow out problem if it is with higher tire pressure. We also recommend our new gravel 29er RG922 rim with hook as attached. It can hold 120 psi tire pressure. Does it work for you? Thanks, Lightbicycle

Any chance you could make these with a bead hook? I want these for road use, and 40psi won't be enough for me; If I could run these at 80psi they would be amazing. If they had a bead hook they'd be safe at higher pressures, yes? A set of 280 gram climbing rims would be incredible for road use.

LightBicycle 2017/07/30

Hi Paul, Sorry for the late reply. We were out for travel last two days. Actually, for rims with bead lock, it can not hold 80psi either. If you like rims hold 80psi while riding, it is better to go for hook rims. We will have attached new gravel rims 29mm wide/28mm deep coming soon. It can hold more than 100psi while riding. Does it work for you? Thanks, Lightbicycle

LightBicycle 2017/08/08

Hi Tyler, Thanks for your inquiry! The tire pressure for WM29C06 wheelset should be less than 40 psi. Could you tell me how much tire pressure you will ride? And then we can have a further check whether it is suitable to you. We have another gravel bike rim, it is with hook, can hold high tire pressure. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Yann 2017/07/07

Hello, I want build wheels with RM29C06 Standard for gravel bike. I don't want to use wider rim like RM29C19 (like in my mtb) but I weight 98kg. Can you increase rider weight limit with additional reinforcement ? Thanks, Yann

LightBicycle 2017/07/07

Hi Yann, Thanks for your inquiry! For RM29C06, it is hookless. For gravel riding, the tire pressure is higher than mtb rims. We are afraiding of tire blowing out. We recommend to wait for our new gravel rim as attached picture. It is with hook, to hold higher tire pressure. It will be USD269 each. We can make the rims stronger by adding some more carbon fiber material. What do you think? Thanks, Lightbicycle

Yann 2017/07/10

Thanks you for all informations ! I'm sorry, I never look in road section. The RR36C02 is perfect : not expensive, 125kg weight limit, 60psi max for hookless (i ride with 30-35 psi with my gravel actually, 38mm tire on ztr archex). I found my happyness !

LightBicycle 2017/07/11

Hi Yann, Yes, the RR36C02 rims are suitable for 30-35 psi gravel riding and can fit 38C tires. It should less than 40psi for hookless version. Please check our quotation as below. RR36C02 rims: clincher, hookless, 28mm wide/36mm deep, UD matte? Front 24H/rear 28H? No brake surface for disc, USD170 each Thanks, Lightbicycle

would these rims in flyweight be suitable for a 36-38mm tubeless gravel tire? thanks for your reply

LightBicycle 2017/06/16

Hello Carl, Thanks for your inquiry. The RM29C06 flyweight rim can work with 36-38mm tubeless gravel tire. But the max tire pressure is 75psi only (recommended tire pressure is 20psi ~ 30psi). May I know what your riding tire pressure is normally? Then we will check accordingly and do some recommendations. Because we have new 28mm wide 36mm depth road rim which is designed for gravel bike also and work with high tire pressure. Thanks, Lightbicycle

LightBicycle 2017/06/05

Hello Mike, Thanks for your contact. The max tire pressure on RM29C06 rim is 70psi, but the recommend tire pressure is around 20psi ~ 30psi.You can run the tire pressure around 20psi ~ 30psi. It is safe and comfortable. Thanks, Lightbicycle

I ride a Giant Defy road disc bike with Continental GP4000S II 28C tyres at 55psi front, 65psi rear. These tyres measure 30mm wide on current wheels, which are 23mm wide, 19C internal. I want wider wheels for better match to the tyre width, and lighter weight. I would run same pressure (55/65psi) which is close to maximum. I need 6-bolt front 100mm QR/ rear 135mm QR. I see the cyclocross reply to Luke and think these could be used for wide road wheels also. My concern with DT350 hub is I cannot switch to Thru axle later, so cannot move to newer bike. What hub do you recommend and what is total wheelset cost?.

LightBicycle 2016/11/16

Light-Bicycle 2016/08/26

Can you explain why the above charts states the Max tyre pressure as 70psi and the Cycling tyre pressure as 40psi(recommend MAX)? What is the difference between the two measurements?

Light-Bicycle 2016/08/16

Hello Scott, Thanks for your inquiry. The max recommend tire pressure 40psi means that we recommend the tire pressure around or under 40psi. For the max tire pressure 70psi, some customers prefer higher tire pressure, so they are able to inflate the tire around 40psi-60psi. However, it is not allowed to inflate the tire over 70psi, or the tire will flow off the rims easily. It is unsafe. Thanks, Light-bicycle

Luke 2016/11/24

I would like to follow-up regarding my experience with the wheels and hookless RM29C06 rims. They arrived without a hitch. I like the straight-mount spokes, and 28H is plenty for me. I ended up using 21 mm Stan's rim tape instead of the supplied 12mm rim tape. The supplied tape is of good quality, but too narrow. Mounted the wheels on a 2016 Trek Boone and raced them in many cyclocross races this fall in the muddy Pacific Northwest USA. Racing tire was the Clement PDX Tubeless. The wheels performed flawlessly all season. Seating the tires was easy, and they stayed on. I ran 25-30 PSI at all the races, never had any burps or flats. Also tried some 28mm Schwalbe Ultermo Tubeless slicks for the road. Those work well also - this will be a great gravel/hill bike in the winter and spring. Will definitely buy from this company again. Great value.

LightBicycle 2016/11/25

Hello Luke, We are so happy you are enjoying your new rims. It would be great to see a picture of them on your bike! For the rim tape, you can apply one lap on the left, one lap on the right in order to get full coverage. Happy Trails! Thanks, Light-bicycle

With freehub Shimano or Sram? -Spokes: Black Pillar x-tra 1420 aero, or DT competition spokes (USD20 cheaper). DT competition spokes are much heavier, but stronger. -Nipples: Alloy or brass? Black or silver? Thanks, Light-bicycle

After almost 3000 miles on my rims they are still perfectly true and strong. I recently hat the rear rim re-laced to a boost 148mm hub to fit my 2016 Orbea Occam TR 29 carbon and it is still perfect. I have had numerous friends on ENVE rims have multiple problems but I have yet to experience any of my own. They are a better price and better quality than everything else I have ridden so far.

Hello, I am planning on the 27mm 29er hookless rim 12K weave Matte. But I want to pair it with the Shimano XTR 9010 hubs and DT Swiss spokes and nipples. Do you think you can build the wheels with the above specs for me? Or it is only the rims that you can supply?

Light-Bicycle 2015/08/14

Hello Judyll, Thanks for your inquiry. For hubs, we only have DT 350S &240S center lock hubs, no Shimano XTR 9010 hubs. Is that ok for you? Or you can order the rims only, and build the wheels at your local, then you can get the hubs you like to build the wheels. What do you think about it? RM29C06 (27mm wide 29er rim) hookless: 360 /-15g, USD165/pcs Rim are in 12k matte. 32H? Please find attached rim profile. The shipping cost is USD33.3 for two rims to Philippines by EMS. For the hubs you use, we haven’t used before. The hubs we use here is Novatec/ hope/ DT Swiss hubs. Also, for different spoke pattern & different builder, it will make the spoke length different. If you built the wheelset, maybe the spoke length can not work. So, it will be a problem if we got the wrong spoke length for you. It will be great if you can check the spoke length with your local builders. Thanks, Light-bicycle

What is the recommended spoke tension?

Light-Bicycle 2015/05/06

Hello Ian, The maximum spoke tension of our rim is 180kgf. Generally, 3 of charging tension are involved in wheel building. A. Tension for "transportation riders" (Comfort ability) 80-90kgf are ideal for regular transportation riders or exercise on a regular basis. B. Tension for "enthusiast riders" (Balance) 100-110kgf are good for people with enjoyful and training purpose. C. Tension for "professional riders" (Performance) 120-130kgf are charged for riders who are expertized in riding or competition. The recommendation of spoke tension is less than 130kgf. Hello, Regarding RM29C06: for a 155lb / 70kg person which version do you recommend? All mountain or XC? thanks.

Light-Bicycle 2015/03/14

Hello Eric, Thanks for your inquiry. AM version is with extra carbon fiber, which is stronger than XC. You are not a big rider, if you don’t ride aggressively, XC is ok for you. Rims: Hookless 27mm wide 29er rims. Please find attached rim cross-section drawing. XC: 360 /-15g, USD165/pcs AM: 390 /-15g, USD173/pcs Which do you like? Do you prefer 3k, 12k or UD for rim weave? Light-Bicycle 2015/03/31

Hello Fred, Thanks for your inquiry. If you ride aggressively, you need to choose the AM/DH version. Both of versions are stiff. We’d like to recommend our new hookless 38mm wide 29er rim. It is much wider and stronger. Do you like it? Please find attached rim cross-section drawing. Rims: Hookless 38mm wide 29er rims. Hello Daniel, Thanks for your inquiry. The max tyre pressure of 27mm wide 29er rim is 70psi, and we recommend the max tyre pressure is 40psi. If you like to ride the rims on the road, we recommend the 27mm wide 29er tubular rim. The max tire pressure is 160psi, and the recommend max tyre pressure is 100psi. Light-Bicycle 2015/01/17

Hello Randy, Thanks for your inquiry. Normally, the recommend tire pressure of our mtb rim is 40psi. But the max tire pressure is 70psi. So you can ride around 55-65psi. Please don’t inflate to more than 70psi. Or the rim will be damaged. RM29C06 (27mm wide 29er AM rim) hookless: 390 /-15g, USD173/pcs Please find attached rim cross-section drawing. James 2014/08/03

Is the RM29C06 suitable for tubeless cyclocross use? I'm looking for a lightweight (under 400 gram) rim that measures at least 19mm internal width. It will be 32 hole and used with disc brakes. I intend to use this rim with tubeless cyclocross tires. What would you recommend? Thanks, JB

Light-Bicycle 2014/08/05

Hi James, Thanks for your inquiry. Yes, our hookless RM29C06 rims are tubeless compatible for cyclocross riding. Hookless is more durable. Please find attached cross-section drawings. RM29C06 (27mm outer/ 22mm inner 29er XC rim) hookless: 360 /-15g, USD165/pcs It is ok to do 32H. Do you prefer 3k, 12k or UD for rim weave? Matte or glossy? For tubeless, you only have to use yellow tape, sealant and tubeless tire. Then the rims can ride tubeless perfectly. Thanks, Light-bicycle

Mashood 2014/01/12

Hi Nancy, Are you able to make the rims without any spoke holes?

Light-Bicycle 2014/01/13

Hello Mashood, For current 29er rims, they are not deep in enough to make rims with no spoke holes, because there is not enough space for nipples to go through in side. It is ok to manufacture 26er 30mm deep rims and road rims without spoke holes, we have manufactured some of these rims. Please find as attached. For 29er rims, we think they are not deep enough. For XC rims, we have 27mm wide hookless and 30mm wide as below. Which do you prefer? 27mm wide hookless(RM29C06) : 360g /-15, USD165/pcs 30mm wide (RM29C02) with hook: 390g /-15, USD165/pcs Which do you prefer? The hookless rim is now our most popular one. I plan to buy 4 of these new 29er carbon hook-less hoops. My questions are as follows: 1. Do you recommend the PBA 1420 spokes for this application? 2. Will you sell the spokes and nipples separately? If so how much USA? 3. Do you have the spokes in 286mm, 287mm, and 289mm? I plan to lace the spokes and hoops to chris king hubs and Nova Tec hubs. Thanks Bruce
