It’s been over a year since we first introduced our revolutionary hybrid hook design on the AR25 disc and XC924 rim models. Over that time, we’ve been gathering real-world feedback from riders just like you, and today we’re excited to share the results!
Hybrid Hooks: What Are They For?
Traditionally, rims have had either hooked (also referred to as Crotchet) and hookless (also referred to as Tubeless Straight Side TSS) interfaces. If you’d like to learn more about either of those profiles, refer to our blog on hook vs hookless.
As the bike industry expands, riders of all skill-levels are creating new and unique demands of their cycling components. More and more cyclist are coming to the sport for fun and fitness needs, while race-oriented riders are pushing the boundaries of performance more than ever. With this in mind, the hybrid hook just made sense!
Our Hybrid Hook design blends the best of both worlds. The transition from tire to rim is almost as seamless as that of hookless wheels, so you’ll enjoy a marginal aerodynamic advantage over traditionally hooked wheels. The maximum pressure limit for hybrid hook wheels is ~5 psi higher than our hookless wheels, so the possibility of tire blowoff is also greatly reduced.
Real-World Feedback: How Riders Rate the Design
In addition to the AR25 disc and the XC924, we’ve also introduced the Hybrid Hook shape to more Light Bicycle products: e-MTB specific EH935S / EH733S, and wide gravel WG44 disc.
