We’re excited to introduce the third-generation Speed-Hub GEN3 alongside our ultralight Airia series. The GEN3 features a 1:1 lacing pattern with 20 holes front and rear, and a newly engineered flange hole design tailored for our T-head Thrust-4 carbon spokes. While it comes standard with the Airia series, the GEN3 is also compatible with other regular-shaped rims.

The Speed-Hub GEN2 (21H) is purpose-built for the Turbo series (Turbo 40, 50, 65, and 78). Its 2:1 lacing pattern helps equalize spoke tension between the drive and non-drive sides. The GEN2 uses round-head Thrust-4 carbon spokes and is also available for other road models outside of the Turbo line. For custom builds, feel free to email us or leave a comment to place a special order.

Built on our proven technology, the 231g Speed Gen3 Plus Hub achieves 44 grams of weight saving with careful material pairing and innovative engineering. The carbon spokes hubset is precision-machined to perfection with TPI (CEMA) ceramic bearings and an upgraded wave spring to enhance durability and minimize rolling resistance. With the same 20h configuration, 1:1 lacing pattern, Speed Hub Gen3 Plus features unique surface technologies and a strict fatigue resistance test.

Are carbon spokes better than steel?

The carbon spokes are designed for riders who prioritize speed improvement over comfort and leisure. With a higher stiffness-to-weight ratio compared to steel counterparts, the carbon-spoke wheelset maximizes wheel stiffness while keeping things lightweight. This means that a carbon-spoked wheel often feels more responsive and a bit harder than a steel-spoked wheel build.
What rims are compatible with the carbon spokes?

The carbon spokes are compatible with all road and gravel carbon rims of our lineup. On our online wheelset builder, we only list some of the most asked rim models. Feel free to let us know if you want to special order something different.
GEN2 or GEN3: Which carbon spoke build is right for you?

The GEN3 hubset is designed for lower weight and enhanced aerodynamic performance, coming in around 20 grams lighter than the GEN2. In contrast, the GEN2 prioritizes durability and stiffness with its triplet (2:1) lacing. Please note: the Turbo series (21H only) is exclusively compatible with the GEN2 hub, while the Airia series (20H only) is exclusively compatible with the GEN3 hub.

Hi Light Bicycle, I’m interested in configuring a pair of wheels with you and had a few quick questions: When will the new Airia wheels be available with carbon spokes? Is it possible to get pink spoke nipples with a carbon spoke build? I’m 180 cm tall and weigh 65 kg. I currently ride 28 mm tires at 5 bar pressure. Hi Christopher, Hi Christopher, Thanks for reaching out! Given the fact that you are looking for a climbing wheelset. Berd spokes won't be the best fit here. It would be too compliant. The stiffness would be a key to consider when it comes to climbing. So carbon spokes make more sense. The new flyweight carbon spokes are actually better in tensile strength compared to steel spokes. It provides better stiffness. And the butted version is lighter than Berd spokes in some cases like 270mm. It's 2.3g each and Berd spokes are 2.5g on average. Build with Extralite hubs, they would be super light. Have you figured out the rims you like to build with yet? 35mm would be a sweet spot for both climbing and tarmac. Or are you looking for our AR25 super lightweight wheelset? Thanks, Lightbicycle
