The 30-Year Mechanic’s Seal of Approval: Built to Last
I purchased a Light Bicycle Airia 45 disc wheelset at the end of 2025, in the
flyweight carbon
spoked version. I went with the silver hub and the standard white graphics. I’ve ridden a few K’s
over the years, in fact, no one on Strava has actually done more KM’s, so I know a thing or two when
it comes to what's good, what lasts, and what really does the job…. I also pay for my own product,
so my feedback is honest. I don’t have to justify to the marketing dept what they want to hear. I’m
also a 30-year veteran bike mechanic, having worked on high-end road bikes my whole career. Light
Bicycle truly is making some outstanding wheels….
My Strava Stats Don’t Lie — 6,500km on the Light Bicycle Airia 45
I’ve been riding these wheels for two months now and have out over 6500km on them, they are amazing.
Light, comfortable, handling is outstanding. I think the internal width really helps the stability
and handling as they are wider, this adds to the air volume in the tyre, which also helps with the
comfort and reduces the road buzz, they also look amazing to boot. I truly believe that you can’t
buy a better set of wheels anywhere at the moment, and when you add the value for money with these,
nothing comes close. The Airia series truly is the pinnacle of modern carbon wheels currently at any
price, so they are making some of the western brands look a bit silly; you can't buy better.
Sub-980g Precision: Engineering That Defies the Scale
My favourite wheels I’ve ever ridden, the stability, weight, durability, and value for money can’t
be beaten. These sub-980-gram wheels feel as stable, confident, and solid as wheels out there that
weigh 500grams more. And so far, the durability seems to be right up there as well. I’m impressed,
and so’s my wallet.
