Industry Nine Hydra 2 Hub: Upgraded Durability and Performance

Industry Nine has officially released the new Hydra 2 hub, the latest evolution in hub technology for trail, enduro, E-bike, and downhill riders. Building upon the design of its predecessor, the Hydra 2 hub retains familiar features - such as wide compatibility and color selections - while incorporating significant engineering enhancements. With a set of hubs priced at $700 USD, the Hydra 2 is an investment in performance enhancement for riders seeking reliability in extreme conditions.

Enhanced Durability for Extreme Conditions

The Hydra 2 is engineered to endure the most demanding riding. The upgraded axle is 65% thicker (compared to the original Hydra), efficiently distributing stress while minimizing flex and risk of failure from high-torque loads from E-bikes or aggressive downhill riding. Complementing the axle, are larger 6903-series bearings and a dual defense against contamination: an innovative labyrinth channel directs debris away, while a full-contact radial lip seal ensures long-term protection.

The redesigned pawl system features 5.5 mm pockets that dissipate force 26% more effectively than previous designs, preventing pocket stretch even over years of heavy use. Each pawl features an additional tooth and a hardened alloy construction to handle the torque demands of Class 1 E-bike motors.

Superior Engagement and Efficiency

One of the standout advancements of the Hydra 2 is its improved engagement system. With a sharper engagement angle of 0.41° (compared to 0.52° in Hydra 1), the hub delivers immediate power transfer — a crucial factor for technical climbs and sudden accelerations. The design boasts a remarkable 60% reduction in freehub resistance during coasting compared to its predecessor. This efficiency boost not only enhances riding performance but also contributes to a smoother, more responsive ride overall.

Colorful, Aesthetic Build

The Hydra 2 hub retains the same extensive range of anodized finishes as its predecessor, but features a new flange design. The scalloped flanges dissipate stress more evenly, lowering the chance of damage to, or failure of, the hub shell and flanges. With these upgrades, the Hydra 2 exhibits an advanced design, ensuring that each hub not only performs exceptionally but also stands out as a premium component.
