Losing More than 10kg by Rediscovering the Joy of Riding

Personal Info : 178cm tall. Restarted riding again with those great Light Bicycle wheels, so I reduced my weight by more than 10kg within less than 12 months. At the moment my weight is 71 kg. Often I do ride with RideNow Cycling Club in Shanghai, with hundreds of members. I used to do more MTB riding than road biking. In China, I rediscovered the joy of road biking and have done about 7000km last year and more than 5000km in the first 4.5 months of 2021. Currently, I do ride 3-5x a week depending on weather and air quality index.

During Covid-19, I rediscovered my love of road cycling.
In 2018, I came to Shanghai, China. In the times before Covid-19, I used to travel a lot through China and Asia. I had the pleasure of enjoying awesome food and drinks, but also customer dinners during many cool private holiday trips.
Unfortunately, I gained a lot of weight during 18 months – almost 1 kg per month. So I decided that it can’t go on. During Covid-19, I rediscovered my love of road cycling. Very quickly, I connected with RideNow Cycling Club in Shanghai and joined their weekly rides.
With more frequent rides, my friends convinced me to look into carbon wheels.
In the beginning, I used my old Canyon road bike which has not been moved for almost 2 years (shame on me). However, with more frequent rides, my friends convinced me to look into carbon wheels. One of my best friends used to have Light Bicycle carbon wheels on his cross country MTB. Hence, this was my starting point.
I got in touch with Charlie, who was very, very helpful and helped me to configure my custom-made wheelset. Since then, riding has been very different.
I could accelerate faster and keep the higher speed of my more experienced friends.
Initially, I just used the wheelset on my Canyon bike and started to realize what a difference it was to ride a carbon wheelset. Finally, I could accelerate faster and keep the higher speed of my more experienced friends.
On my first trips outside of Shanghai, for example to Anji, Simingshan, or Xikou, I noticed that Charlie’s recommendation was great. The wheels climb perfectly, but also enjoy great performance in the flats of Shanghai.
I transferred the carbon wheels from my alu Canyon bike to the new carbon Kung bike.
Over the summer of 2020, I gained further physical strength, so I bought a new (custom-made) frameset. As I was so incredibly happy with my wheels, I transferred them from my alu Canyon bike to the new carbon Kung bike. What a great choice it has been.
Finally, we decided to book a nice trip over Christmas and New Year’s Eve 2020, going to Yunnan. With the great wheels, I could keep up with the more professional athletes of the club and was not dropped behind.
Even more so - we enjoyed the cycling trip so much that we booked another 700km trip in spring 2021 going to Sichuan.
In 2020, I started from zero and managed to finally do more than 7000km. So far, in 2021, I have already completed more than 5000km in the first 4.5 months of the year. The wheels have brought back the joy into cycling and also had a very positive effect on my physical abilities: I lost more than 10kg since the beginning of 2020. What a great achievement!

hello I wanted to know what is the lightest pair of wheels rim brake and custom road no disk wheels how to design colors

Hi Arnol, If you are after lightweight. We can make custom weight of our rims. But lightweight rims/wheels are not suitable for everyone. I would have to learn more about your riding style to know which rim would be best suited for you. What is your tire width and your weight please? Then we can check which 700C rim brake wheelset is better for you. Thanks, Lightbicycle
