Love at First Sight – Light Bicycle Falcon Pro Turbo 65 Disc
Just love at first sight with the Falcon Pro Turbo wheels when I was browsing for a new set of unique wheels to stand out from the crowd for my futuristic Trek Madone Gen 7. After just minutes of searching, a picture of the Light Bicycle Falcon Pro Turbo just struck me out of the blue like a lightning bolt, with the uniqueness of the wavy carbon layout. The design kept running through my mind, and having read and seen some reviews on YouTube, I decided to take the plunge to get it online. Note at this point in time, I had always gotten my wheelset from local bike shops, as I am always a see and feel kinda person, so this was a very huge risk I was willing to take.
Selection of Components
One word – “Amazing” experience. There are tons of choices for components to mix and match, and I had an awesome time trying out all combinations, and the best part, every step of it shows exactly how much the setup will cost. I had initially set aside a budget, and when the whole setup was established, I was truly, truly, truly astounded by the pricing, which was well below my initial budget threshold.
Final Choice and Shipment
Falcon Pro Turbo 65 Disc (front and back) was my final choice of weapon, paired with Pillar aero spokes and brass nipples, paired with DT Swiss 240 hubs with upgraded 54 ratchet, with paintless finish on the rims. I was going for a clean, sleek look, so no decals this time. On the topic of shipment, it was accurately fast, and I received it within two weeks of purchase. The item came very well packed with all necessary documents as proof of authenticity.
Quality of the Wheelset
Right out of the box, my final build was classified at almost 1500g as it’s a thick aero set of wheels, and it weighs exactly that, give or take a few grams difference. Had a quick spin of the hub, and it sounded awesome. Everything was well greased with no play whatsoever on every component. Finishing was, I dare say, way cooler than pictures can prove otherwise. Did a quick pairing with my silver Madone frame, and yeah, that was exactly what I had envisioned. The wheels brought the frame that futuristic look to a whole new level.
Excellent Riding Experience
Having paired this set of Light Bicycle Falcon Pro Turbo 65 Disc with Pirelli P Zero RS 28-inch tires, the feel was top-notch. As these rims are hooked, I expected installing the tires would be hella hard, but hey, it was a breeze. Together with a TPU inner tube, everything set up nicely and with a psi of 75, my rides cannot be smoother with immediate lessening of the feel of rolling resistance.
As I live by the East Coast, I do most of my rides around and along the beaches, where wind can be an issue with deeper section wheels, and guess what? Due to the supreme design of the wavy wheel, it cuts through crosswind easily, unlike my previous 50mm wheels, which at times can throw you off with a swirl of passing wind.
Final Thoughts on Light Bicycle Wheels
Having ridden almost 1000 km to date, I can confidently lay out this review with all my honest opinions on this set of Light Bicycle Falcon Pro Turbo 65 Disc. To summarize, it’s a unique, affordable set of wheels which I can dare say compares with most of the big western brands out there. Handling was firm, and it just gives you that extra confidence when cornering or coasting through high speeds. If you have any doubts, better believe the claims of these wheels from Light Bicycle; their R&D and honesty in wheel manufacturing are top of the game. Do yourself a favour and search YouTube for their factory manufacturing process, and hopefully the video will give you a piece of mind. Hope my pictures can give you an insight into how beautifully crafted and industrial this set of wheels looks and performs. Lastly, I would like to thank all the staff who have answered my inquiries before my purchase in an orderly and timely manner, and I dare say I will be back for another set of wheels for my other bike.
