Comments on Recon WHEELSET AM740/EN740 All Mountain/Plus

Hand-built carbon AM740 asymmetric 27.5 inch mountain bike 650b wheels 46mm wide tubeless compatible

M

MountainGoat 2020/07/24

Ordered the AM740 with Industry 1/1 hubs and Sapim Dlite spokes. Received them in a timely manner and have a few rides on them. I have a Pivot Mach 429 Trail and it can run both 27.5+ and 29" wheels, Both sizes were ordered at the same time but the 29" (Recon Pro AM927) haven't come in yet. Both wheelsets are built up the same with only difference being the rim itself. I am thrilled by the quality of the AM740 wheels with 2.8" tires. They roll better than my old 27.5+ wheels, certainly lighter and I have considerably less flex. Tubeless was a cinch! No burping, No problems whatsoever!!!! Hopefully this is the way both wheelsets go for years to come.

Hi, I would like to get new rims for my old roadie. Currently running a Shimano 11s tiagra. Bike mainly used for road to and fro work where its mostly tarmac but bumpy. I'm a 105kg guy. could u recommend me a built for my kind of ride? looking to upgrade from my stock alu rims.

LightBicycle 2019/04/01

Hi Hilmi, What tire width do you use? 25mm wide ? Is it disc or non disc? Do you like road deep rims or shallow rims? Then we can recommend accordingly for you. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Lorenzo 2018/11/22

Hi, I am interested in the following wheelset built on AM740 rims REINFORCED, as I ride an ebike (2.8 tires) in very rocky terrain (my weight is 85kg, ebike 23kg): Front axle:15 / 110mm BOOST Rear axle: 12 / 148mm BOOST Freehub body:Shimano MTB 10/11S Brake system:6-bolt Front holes:28H Rear holes:28H Hub Color:Black Hub :Hope Pro 4 Finish:matte Weave:UD Also, could you please give me a price for TPD delivery? Thank you, L.

LightBicycle 2018/11/23

Hi Lorenzo, Yes, we can make a stronger version for you considering your riding condition. With extra carbon fiber, the estimated weight of the rims would be 630±25g. Is it ok with you? 28H would be a little risky to ride on rocky terrain, especially with an e-bike. I would recommend you go with 32H spoke count. For E-bike wheelset, it is better to choose DT competition 2.0/1.8/2.0 spokes or sapim race 2.0/1.8/2.0 spokes. Thanks, Lightbicycle

The bike I’m looking out runs a 152 spacing on the rear hub can you build a rear wheel to fit that

LightBicycle 2018/08/29

Hi Bill, Do you mean 12*157mm spacing? DH or super boost? We have both of them. Thanks, Lightbicycle

I’m looking at a pivot switchblade that has one 57 x 12 rear hub spacing can you build that?

LightBicycle 2018/08/29

Hi Bill, Do you mean 12*157mm DH or 12*157mm super boost? We have both of them. Please check which you like. Then we can quote accordingly for you. Do you like rear 650B wheel only or front+rear wheels? Thanks, Lightbicycle

Kirk 2018/05/31

Hello. I am a 200lb rider. I am wondering if I should get the AM740 or the EN740. I am not an extremely aggressive rider on a full suspension 130mm travel bike.

LightBicycle 2018/05/31

Hi Kirk, Basing on your weight, my suggestion is to go with the enduro version (EN740), 650B enduro rim. The additional carbon fiber makes the rims stronger and stiffer. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Is it possible to order for Cannondale AI standard? 6 mm offset. /Peter

LightBicycle 2018/05/28

Hi Peter, Yes, we can make a wheelset for your Cannondale AI frame with 6mm offset. We actually build quite some wheels with AI 6mm offset for our customer in the past. Which fork do you use? What we built for our customers are like the attachment suggests. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Hello David, Thanks for your inquiry. We can build the AM740 wheelset with DT 350 boost hubs and Sapim cx-ray spokes. May I know what your electric bike weight is? What is your weight? Then we will check if we need to add some carbon fiber to enhance the rims’ strength. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Stephen 2017/05/07

Hello guy's just looking for recommendation really, thinking of going carbon rims on my enduro bike, I do a lot of uplift days & aggressive trail rides at home (peak district in Derbyshire, UK) I'm looking at 40mm AM wheel sets are they up to the job? I'm 6ft & about 175lbs & ride at least 3 times a week with some all day rides too! Oh & lead time to the UK for delivery too! many thanks Steve.

LightBicycle 2017/05/08

Hello Stephen, Thanks for your inquiry. The AM740 is design for plus bike but suitable for aggressive mountain bike riding also. May I know what the tire width you use normally? Then we will double check if the AM740 is the best choice. Because I think our AM733 is more suitable for your riding. Thanks, Lightbicycle

JT 2017/04/24

Is the AM740 suitable for riders over 200#? I'm typically very easy on my wheels (trail rides less than 3 hours, no jumps, etc), but I'm still ~220#.

LightBicycle 2017/04/25

Hello JT, Thanks for your inquiry. According to your info, you don’t take aggressive riding, so the AM740 is suitable for your riding. But the AM740 is a plus rim. May I know what your riding terrain is normally? What the tire width you use? Then we will do some recommendations and quote accordingly. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Eric 2017/02/01

Hi! Is it possible to build these wheels AM740 DT with competition strait pull. Rear: 2.0 / 1.8 / 2.0 on the drive side and 2.0 / 1.6 / 2.0 on the disk side. Front: 2.0 / 1.8 / 2.0 on the disk side and 2.0 / 1.6 / 2.0 on the other side. I know you have weight toleranses on the rims. What is the lowest possible weight on a AM 740 rim? Is there any problems with aluminium nipples combined with carbone rims? White decal. Regards Eric

LightBicycle 2017/02/04

Hello Eric, Thanks for your inquiry. -Currently, only DT competition spoke straight pull 2.0 / 1.8 / 2.0 are available. Does that work for you? -The lightest AM740 32H rim we stocked is 471g. But we cannot guarantee the lightest rim weight, we only can pick up the rims under 480g for you. -Normally, brass is a little heavier but less brittle. But we can build the wheels with alloy nipples. It is much lighter but the brass is much stronger. Thanks, Lightbicycle
