This review of Light Bicycle and their wheels has been long overdue.
This review of Light Bicycle and their wheels has been long overdue as I have been using their products for a long time now as a self-taught wheelbuilder, avid mountain biker, and road cycling enthusiast. My experience with Light Bicycle goes back to 2015, with my very first purchase of a carbon road 38mm wheelset with Bitex hubs. Back in the days, people were so sceptical of carbon products coming from China. They were afraid of quality issues and feared it would break easily. However, I consider myself a guinea pig in the cycling community and have shared my experiences with other fellow cyclists when they approach me with their curiosity about Chinese carbon wheels.
When I took the AM930S to the trail for the first time, I immediately noticed how quiet and smooth the ride was.
Fast forward seven years and nine Light Bicycle wheelsets (two Road, seven MTBs) later, I can happily say with confidence that I have been completely satisfied with Light Bicycle’s products. My latest purchase from Light Bicycle is their new AM930S S-Flow rim for my Specialized S-Works Epic Evo that I decided to build from frame up. I was a bit iffy about this unique “ribbed” design of the S-Flow rim because I have never seen anything like it before, but after watching Light Bicycle’s introduction video, I was assured that these rims would be the right choice so I decided to pull the trigger.
I laced and tensioned the AM930S rims to Chris King hubs and DT Swiss Revolution spokes and mounted Maxxis Dissector 2.4’s in the front and Maxxis Rekon 2.4’s in the rear. When I took the bike to the trail for the first time, I immediately noticed how quiet and smooth the ride was. I very much felt connected to the earth beneath me, as the wheels had just enough compliance and just the right amount of stiffness.
I have ridden over 1,000 miles on these wheels from tight, technical singletracks to open, gravelly fire roads and the wheels have proven their capability for all types of terrain. For anyone looking for one wheelset that will do it all for your mountain bike riding, I would strongly recommend Light Bicycle’s AM930S rims.
I’m proud to see how Light Bicycle has grown over the years.
Light Bicycle is one of the leading carbon wheel companies globally. Not only is their product fantastic and reliable, but they also have excellent customer service every time I communicate with them via email. I’m proud to see how Light Bicycle has grown over the years. Seeing them develop market-leading products in the cycling community has been awesome.
