I wanted to get the full experience from Light Bicycle with the AR46 wheels.
By now I have had enough experience with Light Bicycle wheels that I am no longer worried about quality, customer service or anything else that may come to mind for a person who has never had the pleasure of working with Light Bicycle. That being said, I decided to get a pair of their AR46 wheels. I had previously purchased a set of WR45’s but it was rims only - I wanted to get the full experience.
These wheels were built with a set of Bitex hubs and their Pillar Aero X-TRA 1420 black straight pull spokes. Let me tell you right now, 1460 grams with tape and valves for these wheels is so much better than anything out there for a similar price. With these light wheels you can feel the upgrade, not just in weight savings, but in its rotational mass, which I could notice right away on my race bike. Take-off is so much faster, stability is there, and the bike is just transformed! Through gravel rides, to road rides and even a few CX races, these wheels have stayed true and straight.
I lent my bike to a buddy to do a race and he was blown away.
I was so impressed that I let a buddy borrow my bike to do a race and he was just blown away. The best part is that we have the same bike, but he owns a pair of different wheels. He tried to buy them from me after the race, but these are staying with the rest of the fleet. A good solid wheelset can be hard to find, but I’d like to tell everyone that a pair of Light Bicycle wheels will transform your bike and these LB AR46s are a testament to that.
During my time with the Light Bicycle AR46 I have been able to set a few PR’s on local routes. I have been able to improve my overall time and efficiency as I see my power meter not on the red zone, and I give it to the wheels helping me be a little more efficient.
These wheels were not intended for any sort of harsh riding or bike packing, but I have no doubt that they could survive some single track action as well as a little bike packing action. Like all of their products, I highly recommend checking weight capacity and even asking for suggestions as the folks at Light Bicycle are very knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to customer service and purchases. I have enjoyed these wheels and have noticed my performance improve slightly, and decided to make these wheels my racing set, between cyclocross and gravel racing. These wheels will be my go-to set from here on out!
