My 3rd Pair Since COVID-19: Why the AR56 is My Forever Wheelset
I found Light Bicycle during COVID-19 in 2020. I needed new wheels for my road bike after my
previous wheels had been stolen. Since then, I have been on my third pair of Light Bicycle wheels.
All of them are Falcon AR56s of varying configurations.
My most recent pair, which can be seen in the pictures, was purchased after I hit a terrible pothole
on the now PREVIOUS pair of AR56s. Now, credit where credit is due.
The damage looks bad. I hit this pothole HARD. I mean VERY hard. BUT even though the rim and bead
cracked, the wheel remained intact, and I was able to ride the wheel home. The fact that the wheel
remained intact after such an impact without losing spokes or detensioning is a testimony to the
build quality of Light Bicycle wheels.
My current pair of AR56s is running flyweight rims, the
Pace Plus hubs, and Alpina Hyperlite Aero spokes. Although I could have made an even lighter build
(approx 1100g) using carbon spokes and Speed hubs, I didn't want an overly stiff wheel. And I was
worried carbon spokes would lead to a harsher ride. But 1320g (over 200g lighter than my previous AR56s) is still really light for 56mm
deep wheels with steel spokes. They are as fast as anything, and they look absolutely FANTASTIC with
the marble finish.
I am now considering getting a gravel wheelset from LB. I love their wheels and will keep purchasing
from them in the future.
