The Flyweight is a new series of rims from Light Bicycle. Targeted specifically towards racers who seek every possible edge on the race course. Our goal was the produce the lightest possible rim without sacrificing performance. Through revisions in each step of the manufacturing process, we were able to produce a strong, light and competitive rim.

* For unique hole drilling and alternate options, please contact us for special orders.

* New Flyweight matte clear coating process. Not available with glossy finish.

* Standard Rim: 15 Months Warranty, 15 Months Crash Replacement with 15% discount

Flyweight Rim: 15 Months Warranty, 30 Months Crash Replacement with 25% discount

* If you would like a coloured graphic, we can apply a sticker over top of the rims, this will add about 5g per rim.

  • Manufacturing process
Our air bladders are made from a special material which produces smoother walls, result in a lighter rim, and are completely removed without harsh chemicals. They are removed through the valve hole with a unique process so that the rim does not have to be patched like traditional manufacturers use. This significantly improves the strength of the rims. • Hand-Built
Each wheelset is painstakingly built by hand to tension within 5% variance. Each spoke's tension rating is recorded in our system, as is the roundness and lateral tolerance.
  • Lightweight
Standard: It is the light one around our current 29er rims, the good choice for lightweight 29er wheels & bike.
Flyweight: It is a new series of rims from Light Bicycle. Targeted specifically towards racers who seek every possible edge on the race course. 280 grams only!
  • Precise layup
Standard: Each rim carries its own layup schedule documents which are followed meticulously by the layup workers. Our Engineering team creates a unique fiber orientation which amplifies the desired riding characteristics for a given rim.
Flyweight: New layup design at the nipple bed to reduce the amount of material required and reinforce the key area around the spoke holes.
  • Angled Holes
Angled spoke holes allows the nipple to pull straight in line with the spoke for reduced stress. This results in fewer broken spokes and nipples.
  • U-Shape
U-shape profile spreads the force of impacts and creates a more robust product.
  • Tubeless
While the rims are optimized for a tubeless setup with the addition of tubeless tape, they also work with tubes.
  • Hookless
Carbon fiber flows continuously over the bead area to provide the best impact resistance and a significant strength increase compared to a clincher rim.
  • Material
Standard: Constructed with premium Toray T700 carbon fiber. The good strength to weight ratio with no expense spared.
Flyweight: Hybrid construction of Toray T800 and T700 was used to reduce wall thickness in key areas while enhancing the overall rim stiffness. These rims are available with the UD material only due to the strict standards required to produce the Flyweight model. We used a lower FAW (fiber areal weight) and a thinner prepreg to achieve a more adjustable layup schedule design which reduces the stress between the layers of carbon fiber.

Any chance you will be making a flyweight XC rim that has a inner diameter of 25 with a outer of 30 or so? This seems to be where DT Swiss and Enve are going with there light race wheels. if you made this I would order it tomorrow! Patrick
LightBicycle : (2018-04-10)
Hi Patrick, We have RM29C19 with 24mm inner/30mm outer width, will this work for you? https://www.lightbicycle.com/U-shape-29er-rim-30mm-wide-hookless-MTB-bike-carbon-rims-tubeless-compatible.html Thanks, Lightbicycle

When you refer to maximum weight for the standard and flyweight versions, are you considering the combined weight of rider and bike or only rider?
LightBicycle : (2018-03-08)
Hi Esteban, The max weight is referred to the rider. Note that RM29C06 is intended design for XC racing . May i know your weight and riding style please? Then we can check whether it is strong enough for your riding or not. Thanks, Lightbicycle

will the XX1 freehub accept the XO 12 speed cassette ?
LightBicycle : (2017-07-14)
Hi Bobo, All Sram 9 or 10 speed cassettes are with Shimano freehub style. Only the Sram 11/12 speed cassettes use the Sram XD freehub driver. Sram has X01, XX1, X1 which all use the Sram XD freehub body. Do you mean Sram 12 speed cassettes? If yes, Sramxx1 is compatible with Sram 12 speed cassettes. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Hi, I have a 2014 Cannondale team scalpel carbon with Enve XC 29er carbon rims. I shattered the rear rim and need a replacement rim. I am looking for the hoop only. I am looking at your 29c06 rim. Is this the closest rim you have to my current Enve? I only need the hoop to repair my wheel. Do you sell just the hoop and what is the cost?
LightBicycle : (2017-03-30)
Hello William, Thanks for your inquiry. Our RM29C06 rim is designed for XC riding and will work with your bike. It is okay to buy the rim only. Normally, you need to get some new spokes also, because the rim ERD is different, so the spoke length will be different. RM29C07 (27mm width): 360 /-15g, $165/pcs Thanks, Lightbicycle

I don't see an option to choose different hubs other than the Hopes. Is the price the same for DT350 and Hope hubs? 28 hole, 6 bolt IS, J bend, 15x100 FW, 135 QR RW, Shimano compatable 10 speed freehub. Thanks Ed
LightBicycle : (2017-02-17)
Hello Ed, Thanks for your inquiry. Hope and DT Swiss hubs are available. But there are not all axle or QR options on our website. Sorry for the inconvenience. Please find our quotations as below. All pricing in USD. -WM29C06 (with Hope pro4 hubs, Sapim cx-ray spokes): $867/pair -WM29C06 (with DT 350 hubs, Sapim cx-ray spokes): $767/pair Thanks, Lightbicycle

Hi Light Bicycle Staff, I have a question- I was looking at your 29er XC 27mm wheelset for use on my cyclocross bike and using 33-38mm cyclocross tubeless tires. Would this work? Best, B5000 葉伯榮
Light-Bicycle : (2016-09-01)
Hello Mr. Ye, Thanks for your inquiry. The recommend tires width for RM29C06 rim are 1.9’’-2.3’’. The 22mm internal width mountain bike rim is a bit wide for those tires. I am more concerned about the higher pressure when using road tires as the 22/27mm rims are hookless and made for lower pressures (up to 40psi riding pressure). I would go with the 25mm deep or 35mm deep u-shaped road rims tubeless compatible. The internal width is about 18mm which would work well with 33C-38C tires or narrower tires. The clincher bead will handle the pressure better. Some customers prefer the 35mm deep for the back wheel and 25mm deep in the front wheel for weight savings. Also, we are able to manufacture the road rims without brake tracks for disc bike. Does that work for you? Thanks, Light-bicycle

Have you had any issues with burping or the tire falling off the rim with the hookless setup? specifically with tires that are tubeless ready? Thanks
Light-Bicycle : (2016-09-01)
Hello Mike, There is zero issues of holding tires for hook-less rims. The rim is without bead hook, it is ok to hold tubeless and tubeless-ready tires. The rim wall is more smooth and straight, and the tire will touch rim walls fully and mounted perfectly. We have sold lots of hookless rims to customers. I am sure that you will like it. Rim profile attached for reference. Thanks, Light-bicycle
