These wheels check off all the boxes: light √, stiff √, reliable √, aero √, affordable √, cool look √.

I love my Light Bicycle wheels. To perfect a new all-road bike I’d built up, I ordered (with the help of Charlie, thank you Charlie!) two wheelsets. One road-oriented and one dirt road/gravel path specific. Both with the exact same 12mm thru axle hub for the ease of quickly swapping back and forth depending on the ride for that day. It takes about two minutes to swap out the wheels (with no disc brake rubbing) which is super convenient and something I really love. Now the wheels themselves…

The 'gravel' set weighs just 1,200 grams!

First off these wheels are SUPER LIGHT. The “gravel” set weighs just 1,200 grams! I repeat 1,200 grams! Well, it’s exactly 1208g on my scale without rim tape or valves. Set up tubeless with some nice Panaracer Gravel King’s and Orange Seal Regular sealant and the ride is smooth and grippy with a super fast spin-up. I’ve ridden them on dirt and gravel roads, rail trails, and a couple “off the beaten” path areas, sometimes by mistake and sometimes intentionally. They have excelled in all applications. The air holds, the wheels have stayed true and my body thanks me. Previously, my gravel wheels were a set of HED Belgium C2 with White Industries hubs, non-tubeless with tubes installed, and changing to these isnight and day. The wheels from LB are fantastic. I also highly recommend going tubeless with these LB wheels, once you go tubeless you will not go back!

Sub 1400g for a wheelset with wide/deep-ish rims
makes my heart go pitter-patter.

The road set is 1383g on my scale without rim tape or valves. Sub 1400g for a wheelset with wide/deep-ish rims makes my heart go pitter-patter. I also set them up tubeless with Hutchinson Fusion Performance tires and Orange Seal Regular sealant. Oh baby do I love these wheels. You can’t imagine how smoothly they roll, how quickly they spin up. And they hit the turns like nobody’s business! Road buzz and small bumps are noticeably reduced thanks to the tubeless setup. No air leakage and they are still as true as the day I received them. Absolutely no complaints. On my other, now backup road bike, I have a set of LB clincher rims R35 disc that my builder laced onto Shimano DuraAce hubs to replace some aluminum Kinlin rims. Just like my latest wheels from LB, those rims were given high praise from my builder and changed that bike dramatically of course for the better! So whether you go clincher or disc tubeless you can’t go wrong with LB rims/wheelsets.

From November to April I have put roughly 2,000 combined miles
on them even though the Pennsylvania east coast winter months.

So I received both of the abovementioned wheelsets in October 2018 and got them rolling by November 2018. A friend who builds wheels inspected them before I did anything and he commented on how well built they were and the quality of the rims. I ditto his praise. From November to April I have put roughly 2,000 combined miles on them even though the Pennsylvania east coast winter months. I just recently road in 25-35 mph winds and did not have any issue with crosswinds when using the wheelset with AR36 disc rims. I highly recommend LB rims and having them build you a wheelset. So much so that I ordered a third wheelset( AR36 disc hookless rims, same hubs, spokes, tires as the other AR36 disc hook version wheels. Running lower PSI 67 front / 70 rear. Roll very nice. Smooth.....). Just like bikes, the amount of wheelsets you need is N+1. If you’re deciding between some fancy big name brand and these, do yourself a favor and grab these LB wheels. They are significantly less expensive and every bit as good. I love my LB wheelsets and, believe me, you will too!

THE SCENERY ALONG THE WAY IS FASCINATING.
