According to our latest lab test results, our Flyweight carbon spokes feature a significant boost in lateral stiffness compared to aero steel spokes, while keeping the vertical hardness within a tolerable range. For a high-performance wheel build, cycling safety is always a top priority. Our Flyweight spokes feature a maximum tensile strength of up to 420kgf, much higher than industry safety standards.

With our latest version of Flyweight carbon spokes, stainless steel spokes could be a thing of the past. Our regular-edition spokes can fit hubs of any brand, straightpull or j-bend, and any road or cyclocross rims of our lineup. No special rim treatment or proprietary nipples are needed. The wheel-building process is similar to the steel spokes. You can interchange the spokes between steel and carbon to suit cycling needs. All carbon spoke wheelsets (rim-brake) from Light Bicycle are handbuilt by our most experienced wheel builders with tension balanced and stress relieved. Riders can install tires and start the first ride immediately after receiving the wheels. Three spare complimentary carbon spokes come with each order for easy replacement.

  • How do I order Flyweight spokes only?

    Contact us (sales@lightbicycle.com) and we’ll quote for you offline to buy spokes only. Our engineers will calculate the carbon spoke length for you with the specifications of your hubs, rims, and nipples, and a special spoke-holding tool is equipped with your order.

  • Are carbon spokes better than steel?

    The carbon spokes are made for riders who prioritize speed improvement over comfort and leisure. With a higher stiffness-to-weight ratio compared to steel counterparts, the carbon-spoke wheelset maximizes wheel stiffness while keeping things lightweight. This means that a carbon-spoked wheel often feels more responsive yet a bit harder than a steel-spoked wheel build.

  • What’s the difference between the regular edition and the special edition?

    The regular edition carbon spoke wheelset is designed with universal compatibility as a priority, getting the carbon spoke upgrade more accessible to all riders. The special-edition wheelset (disc brake only) uses our Speed hubs (ceramic bearings) and specially designed carbon spokes.   • Can I build carbon spokes with DT Swiss/Carbon-Ti/Novatec/I9/CK hubs?

    We offer two Flyweight carbon spoke options: regular and special edition (view the former question for their differences). With the regular edition, you freely customize your wheel build with any hubs. The special-edition spokes, however, are exclusive to our Speed Hubs (centerlock disc brake). For regular edition buyers, if your preferred hub option is unavailable online, contact us (sales@lightbicycle.com) to special order it. Also, if you already have a hubset within reach, you can send us the components to complete your build at Light Bicycle. Email us to let us know your needs.

  • What rims are compatible with the Flyweight spokes?

    The Flyweight spokes are compatible with all road, cyclocross, and gravel carbon rims of our lineup. On our online wheelset builder, we only list some of the most asked rim models. Feel free to let us know if you want to special order something different.

  • What’s new about the 2023 version?

    The latest regular-edition Flyweight spoke wheelset expands the hub and rim compatibility. And the new version is available in both straightpull and J-bend neck types. Also, we have replaced the standard aluminum spoke head with a titanium head and threads for higher tensile strength (+34.2%) and lighter weight.     The special edition wheelset comes with an aero-optimized spoke profile (4.5mm), ceramic bearings, and more responsive hub engagement. Though with these performance upgrades, we maintain the hub price at a budget-friendly level (+$30).
