Quite a few customers are waiting for a few months for this new bead hook-less carbon rims. Please find as below rim specs. Actually hookless rim design is not new, it has been used on automotive wheels for quite a long time. It is also hook less design & using tubeless tire. No need to use hook less ready tires. Our engineer started to study hookless design quite a long time ago. We have set up tubeless tire on it. But we get the result the spoke holes can hold more than 300kgf tension. These days, we have got quite a few mails from customers. They are confused at our UD U-shaped 45mm clincher rims. They see 3k weave on rim bed and consider the rims are 3k, not UD actually. Please check as below, then you will understand the rims are with UD construction. For more detail information about 3k/12k/UD carbon fiber: The 3k 12K UD carbon fiber weave for rim and frame No matter 3k/12k/UD rims, all the inside carbon fiber are UD carbon fiber, UD layers are applied at different angle on each other. They are still not identical. For example, the orientation are different( some are placed at 0 degree, some are 45 degree, 90 degree,etc.). It is very important to use right orientation for carbon layers. Our engineers will use experience & testing result to use the best orientation for each carbon layer to make the rims with best strength. For 3k rims, it is only the top layer in 3k weave( only one layer 3K, all the inside are UD). For 12K rims, it is the same. Only the top one layer is 12K weave. For UD rims, it is around 99.9% carbon fiber layers are UD, only one small 3k layer on the top of rim bed, to prevent carbon fiber split after spoke holes machining on rim bed. Putting the 3k woven carbon fiber around hole area& machining, it can prevent carbon fiber from laminating while machining. That is why 3k weave(only 1pcs small layer) on the top of rim bed. And one 3k layer on the top of rim bed will make the rim looks special and nice. So, our UD rims are not 3k construction, it is really UD rims 700C U-shaped. For U shape rims braking surface issue last month (the beginning of Sept 2013), it is the clear coat painting on the braking track. So, the painting becomes peeling off after a few days. It is not allow to paint the brake track. The U shape 45mm clincher rim is very popular, there are quite a few orders, and the painting is too busy to finish orders in time, that is why we had one new guy added to do painting on U shape 45mm clincher rims. He is not familiar with painting process. He just paint the road rims the same as MTB rims. He did not know that, for road rims, there will be braking track surface left for braking. The painting can not be applied on the braking track surface. So, one batch of U shape road rims are painted at braking track surface last month. And it caused the braking surface issue. We are very sorry about this issue. Now the painting line has strict process guideline, to prevent similar issue happen again. And the QC department has added "braking track surface check" to the QC check list, no painting material on braking track surface. We know the performance for braking track surface is important for road bicycle rims clincher. Our production problems are fixed, and the braking surface is good now. Here are the pictures we made these days: We are arranging replacement rims for the customers that have braking issue. In the past, there is no this kind of issue for U shape 45mm clincher rims, except the batch of last month .We are very appreciated for the great support for some customers’ support. They trust us , and still accept replacement rims after we solve this issue. For the 45mm U-shape clincher rims shipped before September 2013, there are still no any complaint from customers. They are still riding well. We will keep improving the quality of products and professional service. It is always what we need to do.
After around 8 months testing, the new manufacture process performs much better than the old process. During these 8 months, we get almost no rim crack issue for new process(around 4100pcs new process rims are sold during these 8 months, only a few spoke hole pulled out at the beginning. And after we solved the spoke hole process. We haven't got any rim crack issue). But for the old process, there are some crack issue after customers' a few months riding. So, all wide 29er all mountain rim, 27.5er rim and New 26er DH rim(33mm wide&30mm deep rim) are now all used new process. And For new process rims, only can be available for Light-bicycle. We haven't sold to any other local trade companies. Some trade companies will sell the rims with old manufacture process at cheap price(some are the old process stock ones). If customers likes rim strong & with new process, please contact light-bicycle team. We will provide good rims & good after-sell service for all of you. The first two is for mold serial number. "12" standard for MR12( RM29C07 rim mold). The third letter, " M" stands for matte finish, " G" stands for glossy finish. The next two is spoke count, "32" stands for 32H spoke holes. The coming 6 numbers is for other number on our order list, like "917901" means your order is "917901" serial number on our order list. For the old process & stock ones, it starts with " SDXXXXXXXXX", or without serial number. Because the serial number is invisible sometimes for the old process. Several comments have been made about advantages of wheels which are more U-shaped than V-shaped and have a wider spacing between the bike rims. It is a relatively new development. There are some advantages of this bicycle rim design. Fisrt, It will have a straighter line and smoother transition from tire sideway to rim edge, for example; also less bulging of tire walls and make for easier passage of an inflated tire through brake calipers. With standard shaped road bicycle rims, the only design variations generally relate to rim width at the brake track and rim depth, with all other changes moving the road bike rims from a roughly 'V' shape to more of a 'U' shape. With the concept, the maximum width of the rim can be tuned independent of brake track width, while the widest point of the rim may also be moved up or down within the rim cross section. The tire attaches to the prongs of the U. The bottom part of the U is often flat on MTB carbon rims, but can be curved, sometimes even almost pointed, like the bottom of a V. Generally, the more curved or pointed the inner part of the rim is, the more strength it will have. Wheels offer unmatched aerodynamics across the widest possible range of wind conditions, while having the lowest possible cross wind sensitivity. These shapes are also not affected by tire width changes nearly to the effect that other ‘V’ and ‘U’ shaped rims are, allowing the athlete to choose the optimum tire for his/her event, and not have to compromise on a tire around which the wheel was originally designed, in some cases up to 15 years ago. Second, these clincher rims are with non-parallel brake track. The non-parallel brake track did not present a problem for braking. In fact, no need to alter the angle of brake pads. And it is nice to have the solid braking performance on an aero road bike wheelset. The non parallel brake track has been around for a while, it's on Zipp's carbon wheels and some Hed wheels too. This angled brake track will improve the airflow over the tire onto the rim, help toe in the brake pads, and also help to dissipate against heat buildup on the edge of the rim. The benefit of our new U shaped rims are: adding stiffness, due to a slight widening of the rim, and better braking, with a slightly angled brake track, not grew much in weight.
