The Mid-Autumn Festival is held on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar, which is usually around mid or late September in the Gregorian calendar,it is the time when the moon is said to be at its brightest and fullest.

The moon is what this celebration is all about.

For thousands of years, the Chinese people have related the vicissitudes of life to changes of the moon as it waxes and wanes; joy and sorrow, parting and reunion. Because the full moon is round and symbolizes reunion, the Mid-Autumn Festival is also known as the festival of reunion. All family members try to get together on this special day. Those who can not return home watch the bright moonlight and feel deep longing for their loved ones.

Most families have a dinner together to celebrate the festival. A saying goes, "the moon in your hometown is almost always the brightest and roundest". Many people who live far away from homes want to go back to have a family reunion. How happy it is to enjoy the moon cakes while watching the full moon with your family members.

For the people who are out of town , they mis their family or the lover at home and share the same moon at the night of the Moom Festiva.

moon-cake Moon cake symbolizes reunion. Most chinese family members and friends will get together to admire the bright mid-autumn harvest moon, and eat moon cakes.

lantern In Guangzhou in South China, a huge lantern show is a big attraction for local citizens. Thousands of differently shaped lanterns are lit, forming a fantastic contrast with the bright moonlight.
